Golf Course Maintenance & Fall Tee Time Updates

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE DURING CLOSURE

Over the past week the golf course underwent general maintenance to address areas of agronomic need.  The greens were verti-cut to alleviate thatch buildup from the season of play and machinery compacting the soil.  Verti-cutting is a procedure that cuts through the thatch about 1 inch into the surface and injects sand into the slits.  The process results in a firmer putting surface over time.  Initially, the greens may be a bit slower due to raising the height of cut to let the greens heal properly.  Additionally, the driving range tee was aerified, pulling cores of the ground out, vert-cut, and overseeded with new grass seed.  In keeping the grass tee open longer into the fall the past 2 seasons, this process was neglected resulting in more weeds, and thick thatch layers preventing positive regrowth of healthy grass.  As a result, the grass tee will be closed for the remainder of the 2022 season and will reopen in 2023 as a healthy area to resume practice.  The aerification of tees was skipped this week because of the 4 inches of rain on Monday and will be addressed in the coming weeks.  Core aerification of greens and most likely fairways will take place October 24th through the 28th this season.

GOLF COURSE REMINDERS & FALL TEE TIMES UPDATE

Tee times on weekends will now move to 8am consistent with weekdays. Please note that no play is allowed before those times in an effort to give the grounds crew enough time to prepare the course.  Times will continue to move later as the weather turns colder and frost becomes an issue.  The golf shop will close at 6pm in September and move to 5pm October through March.  One last friendly reminder, members using the chipping areas need to please pick up their own practice balls after their session.  Shag bags with balls are located inside the bag room to assist in this process.  Far too often balls are found strewn across the chipping green leaving an unsightly mess for the next person using the area.
